Since March 2004, when Rodríguez Zapatero first came to power, his goal, more than that of the government, has been to change the political regime of Spain. Spaniards voted this past Sunday, and the Popular Party (PP) improved their results from 2004, increasing their liberal-conservative representation. They are now dealing with a somewhat happy defeat, but a defeat nonetheless. There is plenty of time for analysis on the election itself; however, we must immediately look to the effects rather than the causes. What will happen in a Spain whose citizens have supported the deterioration of its Constitution, a pact with ETA and the Spanish hara-kiri economy? Descargar PDF

After March 9, the Government emerging from the ballot box can and must address the security and defense problems our country is experiencing. The state of affairs of our Armed Forces and the strategic milieu we face will demand that the new Government take at least ten measures during its first one-hundred days. We at GEES consider that the measures should include the following: Descargar PDF

In Spain, the crime rate is obviously on the rise under the Zapatero Administration. While the ones in charge mess around with conveniently fabricated numbers and statistics, one thing has become increasingly clear. In recent years, Spaniards have started to feel more and more insecure, not only out in the streets, but within their own homes. Facing the passivity of this Administration, Spaniards see a sort of quiet terror settling in which will most likely escalate.

At the end of this legislative term, we must remember that the Popular Party and the Socialist Party, Rajoy and Zapatero, completely disagree on the way to confront ETA’s terrorism. Hence, in the coming years, the government’s actions regarding ETA depend completely on who wins the general elections. However, beyond moral indignation, it is necessary to be realistic and extremely clear; in the general elections of March, Spaniards will have to choose what kind of response they want their government to have towards terrorism.

The "business transaction with pacific weapons," as definied by Zapatero, inevitably push the United States to veto the use of their technology for EADS-CASA sensors, caused price increases which entailed the cancellation of the sale of the airplanes. Descargar PDF

The persistence of the PSOE to stifle Christianity in no way resembles a healthy separation of Church and State. They are not acting in ways acceptable of democratic regimes. In reality, they are attempting to eliminate any source of alternative morals which threaten their control. Descargar PDF

The debates on European policy, stirring for the past three years in Spain, are a good representation of the level to which the two main Spanish political parties have come to defend the same approach and policy regarding Europe; despite attempts by others to demonstrate the opposite. Descargar PDF

The state public spending for 2008 is facing the scrutiny of the Senate these days.Among others, the Defense item; small and almost absent of any debate, will not share the limelight with the Ministry of Public Works, Housing or Environment for one more year. As Félix Sanz Roldán himself has admitted, resigned to his fate or not, “no Joint Chief of Staff is happy with the budget [but] one cannot get blood from a rock.” Descargar PDF

It is not that HB had any relation with ETA, or that it advocated terrorism or that it avoided condemning the attacks. The fact is that Herri Batasuna was the direct doing of ETA’s leadership; it served ETA, and it was accountable to ETA. And after HB, came Euskal Herritarrok, Batasuna, AuB, and ANV, chosen by ETA’s leadership as substitutes. ANV was part of HB from the beginning, and as such, it took part in the support policy and strategy for ETA. Descargar PDF

As time goes by, it becomes more evident that the ETA attack in Capbreton is going to represent a serious setback for the Spanish government’s anti-terrorist policy. Each new attack of the terrorist group actually acts as a reminder of the resounding failure of Zapatero’s policies, appeasing terrorists. In addition, the existence of two casualties provides another shovelful on the grave of a negotiation process finished off by the group, despite Zapatero’s refusal to consider it to be terminated. The most relevant aspect of this fight against terrorism is that the death of these two agents can open a breach in the iron encirclement that Guardia Civil (Spanish Civil Guard) had created around the terrorist organization Descargar PDF
