The friendship between Spain’s Defense Minister and Venezuela’s apprentice dictator seems to go deeper than mere commercial weapons transactions. During his constant visits to Caracas, Bono seems to have learned from the Bolivar-style dictator how the army can become an instrument to serve political plans.

The trouble in Iran is like the Ravel’s bolero, but only in part: always the same tune, but fewer variations.

Analysis nº 94
Almost four million foreign nationals live in Spain today. The great majority of these immigrants come from outside the European Union; they have arrived to our country in recent years from Africa, Latin America and Eastern Europe. In the last three years, the influx of illegal immigrants to our territory has indeed increased in spectacular fashion. Therefore, whereas in 2003, we estimate the arrival of 370,000 immigrants, that number rose to 650,000 in 2004 and that number might be even higher in 2005 according to Euroestar. This real immigration boom, encouraged by the irresponsible policy carried out by the current government – better known as “papeles para todos" demanding legalization of all foreigners on Span-ish territory who want to stay – threatens to go beyond the Spanish society’s ability to assimilate them and it might generate a deep social crisis in our country.

The message ETA released this past weekend and its bombing attack yesterday have confirmed GEES’ most recent analyses, revealing how unfounded the Prime Minister’s talk of a coming ETA ceasefire really is.

The only place ETA’s ceasefire exists is in the “enlightened” mind of a man carried to the post of Prime Minister of Spain thanks to an historic accident.

One of the most serious risks to the Zapatero’s supposed peace process is the possibility his surrendering the Rule of Law could lead to the spontaneous creation of a new GAL: in other words, the emergence of an armed response to ETA. This might seem remote, but no one should discard it when analyzing the long term situation.

The aeronautic company EADS’s refusal to supply the planes Spanish Defense Minister José Bono agreed to sell to the Bolivian regime leaves the Zapatero administration looking even more ridiculous than normal.

The kilograms of explosive in ETA’s bombs are proportional to the concessions offered up by Zapatero. But it looks like the Prime Minister is willing to offer a truce from the Rule of Law to force a truce in terrorist activity. This is the reason why the chief prosecutor was fired.

Few things are more revealing about the current state of the American Democratic Party than the image it transmitted during the President’s State of the Union address, with congressmen remaining seated, whispering and refusing to applaud a single one of the initiatives presented by George W. Bush. In fact, the only time they stood as a group to applaud was when the President referred to Congress’s inaction on social security. Nothing better represents the democrats today, their resentment and politics of hate.

The left-wing is always suspicious of soldiers and the Spanish left-wing, given its historic rancor, even more so. Although Jose Bono, the current Defense Minister, is a leftist in name only, he shares the same mentality.
