On April 30, 2007 in its Opinión pages, the Spanish newspaper, EL PAIS published an article by Bernabé López García titled “Postponing Utopia, Defending Dignity." It justifies the Moroccan government’s position regarding the future of the Western Sahara and compares the Moroccan offer to the concessions of the Spanish Communist Party (PCE) made at the beginning of the Spanish transition to democracy. He feels that the rebel movement, the Polisary Front, should now abandon their fight for independence (for utopia). Such concessions could bring an end to the Diaspora, exile, and suffering and allow the Sahrawis to live with dignity.
